Dear Paulette, Soon, as i predicted ,there won't be money in the U.S. to throw around and influence the democratic processes around the world, as I'm sure you read in the news, many other countries will be sucked down with the rapid decline of a super power that appears inevitable ,but nicaragua , with low to none personal and national debt and a population that is still in touch with the land and who are accustomed to helping one another in a pinch will fare well . You are where you can leave a significant impression upon mankind. Just a few more like you and the sky is the limit-perhaps greed is not a genetic flaw that can never be overcome in the human race. You and Nicaragua are the epicenter for change.
It is unusual to hear that women are sexually exploiting your staff . I'd have predicted that men would have shown up feeling more at ease with this practice in a culture where
mochismo is still prevalent , but then i see more and more in the U.S.A. " the car coming from behind ,dangerously weaving through traffic is more times than not driven by a little old lady or a young girl with a cigarette and cell phone. Nicaragua has prevailed with keeping international organized crime at bay and these little battles is just how they've done it . Keep the vigil .. vern

Hello there Paulette, Guillermina y todos los demás¡ Your projects certainly have taken on a life of their own, haven’t they? I can’t imagine how horrible life must be for many Nicaraguans now, with the current food/petrol prices. I remember seeing tiny structures made of branches covered in plastic bags along the side of the roads, not realizing for a few seconds that those were actually “homes” where families lived, at the mercy of wind, rain, exhaust fumes and volcanic sulphur. I hope to get back to Mariposa in 2009, and maybe help out with one of your projects.

Saludos,

Glenda

When I hear about the storms I think of that retaining wall your sister had built at the Panama School and how long it would have taken for the school to slide down the hill.

I smile when I read your posts for I can see you, Guillermina and all the staff as I read. You have good reason to be optimistic because you are making a difference in many lives there in Nicaragua. I have always been a firm believer ; that you are rewarded in Heaven for the positive impact you have on others and you are surely to be rewarded.

All Nicaragua needs is the heirloom seed, uncontaminated with GMOs.
Suddenly Paradise has food. Most of the rest of the planet has far too
many obsticles, both social and environmental to over come in one or
two growing seasons. My brief visit has brought optimism back with a
thundering. keep planting.
